Baseball bullet image Shoeless Joe's Take Two Games From The Ty Cobb's

On Saturday October 23, 2010, the Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum nine played the Ty Cobb Museum nine in a doubleheader contest held in Royston, GA. The Ty Cobb Museum hosted the doubleheader at Ty Cobb Field in Royston, a short distance from the Museum. The players and fans were taken to the field in two horse drawn wagons. The games are played under the 1860's rules, so gloves and cleats are not allowed. The ball is slightly larger than a modern day baseball and is not quite as hard as a modern day ball. A batted ball can be caught on the first bounce for an out under the rules of 1860. The ball is pitched underhanded, similar to that of modern day slow pitch softball. The bats are usually larger and somewhat heavier than the modern day bats. The Shoeless Joe's got off to an early lead in Game 1 and never came close to giving that lead up, the final in Game 1 was Shoeless Joe's 19, the Ty Cobbs 3. In the second game of the doubleheader, the Cobbs got off to an early lead and it didn't look well for the Shoeless Joe's to take Game 2. At one point the Cobbs were up 5 - 0 and it looked like all was lost for the Joe's. Around the 4th inning the Joe's showed some life and scored a few runs and it looked like the Joe's might have a chance. During that inning, the Cobb officials examined the Joe's bats and ruled them illegal, save for the Joe Jackson model Louisville Slugger. At that point, the Joe's decided they would use the Cobb bats to beat them at their own game and they did. Final score for Game 2 was Shoeless Joe's 9, Ty Cobbs 5. 2009 was the first year that the Cobbs and Joe's played, that doubleheader was hosted by the Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum on the Brandon Mill ballfield. The Joe's won one and lost one in 2009 and are now up 3 games to 1 in the series between the two Museums. The game is held annually in the Fall and will be hosted by the Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum in Greenville in 2011.

Baseball bullet image Joe's Jersey In The Hall Of Fame Is A Fake.

The jersey that is supposed to have been worn by Joe Jackson during the 1919 season and which was once owned by the late baseball memorabilia collector Barry Halper has been proven to be a fake. A year long investigation by Peter Nash of the Haulsofshame.com web site has confirmed that the jersey isn't even an authentic White Sox jersey from the period, let alone Jackson's own. Baseball bullet image Report From "The Night At The Museum".

Author Tom Perry and our own Official Historian, Mike Nola spent a "Night At The Museum" on Saturday August 7, 2010. The two men were granted permission to stay overnight in Joe Jackson's house, which is now a Museum dedicated to his memory. The two men talked baseball and Joe Jackson until the wee hours of the night. When it came time to sleep, author Perry chose the library for obvious reasons, and Nola chose Joe's bedroom. According to both men, nothing went bump in the night, no ghosts, no voices, just peace and quite. The two agree that Joe is at peace and doesn't need to haunt his old house. Both men are very grateful and extend their many thanks to Arlene Marcley, curator of the Museum for the opportunity to spend the night in Joe's house. For more information visit Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum and Baseball Library which is located in Greenville, SC.
