I seem to remember reading that one of Joe Jackson's brothers was quite a ball player in his own right, maybe it was David Jackson? Was he the one who was supposed to be even more talented than Joe himself? Was this the brother who injured himself at the Brandon Mill and ruined any chance of a pro baseball career?
Actually it was Joe's brother Jerry that was an excellent ballplayer. Jerry actually pitched a few games with Joe's Waycross, GA team....then later on played on Joe's Woodside Mill team in 1937. David is the brother you are thinking about that was injured in the mill when he became entangled in the belt that drove all the machinery in the mill. David was taken up to the ceiling of the factory and slammed to the floor which mangled his arm pretty bad. The injury kept David from becoming the great ballplayer that his brothers Joe and Jerry became.
