"Ripken on Rose"
|
In the Sunday Seattle Times, (May 18th), Cal Ripken says that Pete Rose should be elected to the HOF, but Ripken doesn't know if Rose should be allowed back in MLB. Does anyone think that Ripken's statement carries any weight with the commissioner, or, will Bud Lite still drag his feet, no matter what?? I am not particularly a Rose fan, but would it be right to have Rose languish forever?? Ripken has said reinstatement and HOF election are two separate issues, well, according to MLB, you can't get one with out the other....HOF election BEFORE reinstatement. If Rose's reinstatement will open the door for Joe Jackson, I say, go for it. Could it be that Selig knows this and therefore is afraid he will be compelled to address Jackson's case if he acts favorably on Rose's behalf?? |

Well....to an extent we agree with Ripken.....at some point...Pete should be reinstated (whatever that means...and whatever that process is) and he should then be eligible for consideration for the Hall. From all indications, Pete would have no problem getting the votes for election...so basically at the point of reinstatement....he is basically packing his suitcase for Cooperstown. Just because Pete is "reinstated" does not mean that he can ever manage, coach or perform front office duties in the Major Leagues. Reinstatement does not mean he is cleared to be back in the game again, Selig has every right to put conditions on his "reinstatement" of Rose...conditions that MLB and Rose would have to live by. We think the point that most folks miss here is.......Rose should not be considered until after the petition for Joe Jackson has long been settled. Joe should not be depending on what happens to Rose......Rose should be depending on a positive outcome on the petition for Joe Jackson. Selig is very aware that if he clears Pete Rose....he will have to clear Jackson as well....there is no questions or doubts there.....Selig is very, very aware of this and knows that if he clears Rose....Jackson better be the next thing off his lips.
