"Rainy Night in Jersey"
|
Ted was the last HOF player to try to help Joe. whos gonna help now? "Ted Williams was bigger than life to most of us who played baseball. There was something about him. He was the "John Wayne" of baseball, the "truth," especially, about hitting. I dug out my ole copy of "The Science of Hitting" -- we all have one -- just to make sure I still had it. I have two Ted memories that I'll never forget: One, he honored me by including me in his top twenty five hitters of all-time; and two: one afternoon at the original 500 home run club memorabilia show in Atlantic City, he and I were alone in a room, signing bats for two hours. We argued about hitting. I said, "you should swing down." He said, "Slightly up." I said, "outside-in," and he said, "inside-out." I said, "hands," he said, "hips." Of course, I was only 36 and he was 65. Can you imagine two hours alone with Ted Williams and a room full of new bats? I'll never forget it. Ted Williams was a baseball hero like none other." — Mike Schmidt Read about the petition that Ted and Feller Sent to the so called "Commishinor" asking him to let Joe IN!
